The BIS is also working on norms for electric rickshaw E-Kart and approval of hybrid EVs. However, there have been some concerns raised by the industry regarding battery-swapping systems, and consultations are being held with stakeholders to resolve these concerns.
Mandatory Quality Standards For Drones And Electric Vehicles To Be Implemented By Government
The BIS is also focusing on creating quality control orders (QCOs) for various products to mandate compulsory certification. More products have been identified for notifying them under QCOs based on discussions between concerned ministries and government departments. These QCOs are at various stages of processing, and some of the draft QCOs have already been hosted on the World Trade Organization (WTO) by the concerned ministries and departments. The upcoming QCOs will cover a total of 493 products, and the manufacturers of these products will have to obtain certification from BIS.
The government expects that these QCOs will help to increase the income of people, boost exports, and inculcate a spirit of quality. Once a QCO is implemented, individuals will not be allowed to manufacture, import, distribute, sell, hire, lease, or store such products without a standard mark from the BIS. The QCOs will be applicable to both Indian and foreign manufacturers, ensuring that Indian consumers are assured of the quality of products manufactured in India as well as those imported into the country.
