Kaspersky Lab, a prominent Russian software company known for its antivirus software, has created a portable gadget designed to detect small drones, which has become a crucial piece of technology in modern warfare. The company claims that the Antidrone Portable is a security solution suitable for government and commercial use.
The gadget weighs less than 5 kg and can be transported in a rolling suitcase. An operator can track drones using a tablet running Kaspersky’s Antidrone software and locate most types of drones within a radius of one kilometer, as well as the operator’s position. The Antidrone Portable has a battery life of up to two hours and can be used to patrol the perimeter of a secured location.
According to Eugene Kaspersky, the company’s CEO, the development of the Antidrone Portable confirms that Kaspersky Lab is more than just an antivirus company. In 2019, Kaspersky also released Antidrone hardware and software to help protect “critical infrastructure, industrial facilities, transportation infrastructure, and public events from drone misuse.”
The leader of the Antidrone program, Vladimir Turov, stated that the portable gadget is the result of ongoing research and development. He emphasized that the identification of drones is the most challenging aspect of any drone defense, particularly in crowds or dense urban environments where small commercial drones are nearly impossible to identify.
