Skyports Drone Services and electric, autonomous aircraft manufacturer, Pyka, have agreed on a partnership for heavy payload drone logistics. The collaboration will leverage Skyports’ extensive operational experience and Pyka’s heavy payload aircraft to provide game-changing drone delivery services. A full flight programme with Pelican Cargo will begin in early Q2in Cornwall, UK.
A cooperation for heavy payload drone logistics has been reached between electric, autonomous aircraft maker Pyka and drone operator Skyports Drone Services.
The partnership will take advantage of Pyka’s big payload aircraft and Skyports Drone Services’ vast operating knowledge to offer revolutionary drone delivery services. Skyports Drone Services will welcome the recently revealed Pyka Pelican Cargo uncrewed aerial system (UAS) as the newest addition to its fleet as a result of the agreement.
The 1.85m3 cargo volume and 175+ kg payload capacity of the huge autonomous electric aircraft greatly expand Skyports Drone Services’ payload capacity and round out the present range of UAS solutions used by the UK drone operator.
Skyports Infrastructure for Advanced Air Mobility
For a variety of use cases and operations, including services for humanitarian aid, logistics and delivery firms, as well as healthcare and medical organisations, Pyka’s Pelican Cargo will be used. The Future Flight Challenge phase three Open Skies Cornwall project, one of four UK Research & Innovation supported projects won by Skyports Drone Services in July 2022, will be flown as part of a full flight programme with Pelican Cargo beginning in early Q2 in Cornwall, UK.
The addition of Pyka’s Pelican Cargo aircraft to Skyports Drone Services’ fleet advances the organization’s goals of putting drone operations in place on a large scale. The UK drone operator’s value proposition and market position are strengthened by the significant increase in capacity.
“Having a fully electric, autonomous, heavylift freight drone in our fleet is a huge gamechanger,” said Alex Brown, Director of Skyports Drone Services. Since the Pelican Cargo was introduced, we have been able to expand our capacities and focus on operations with larger, higher-value payloads. This allows us to connect communities in isolated locations and offer a reliable, consistent mode of transportation into and out of difficult-to-reach areas. It’s important to note that we’re doing this right away; this is a service that is available right away.
According to Michael Norcia, chief executive officer and co-founder of Pyka, “Skyports Drone Services is one of the most knowledgeable drone operators on the market and an excellent partner for the deployment of Pyka’s Pelican Cargo.” “We are happy to be collaborating with the Skyports team to showcase the groundbreaking capabilities and operating economics of the Pelican Cargo.”
