The head of Kyrgyzstan’s Presidential Press Service, Daiyrbek Orunbekov, announced on Tuesday that the Central Asian nation had purchased an Anka UCAV produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).
Previously known to have supplied TAI-manufactured Aksungur UCAVs, Baykar-made Bayraktar TB2 and Aknc UCAVs, and Kyrgyzstan, with the most recent acquisition, will have all varieties of UCAVs created by TAI and Baykar in its inventory.
Orunbekov stated that Kyrgyzstan had purchased sophisticated weapons systems such as the Bayraktar TB2, Aksungur, Aknc, and Anka. The Kyrgyz Army is now actively using the Bayraktar TB2.
The purchase of Aknc was made public in a statement by Kamchybek Tashiev, the head of the Kyrgyzstan National Security Committee, in October 2022. However, it was when Orunbekov’s most recent statement that the rumour that Kyrgyzstan had acquired Anka and Aksungur UCAVs was officially confirmed. Turkey has yet to learn the number of UCAVs given to Kyrgyzstan.
More than 30 nations have already inked contracts with Turkey to export its domestically manufactured unmanned aerial vehicles (UCAVs), with the battle-proven Bayraktar TB2 taking the lead.
After Turkey, Kyrgyzstan is the second nation to use one of the four UCAVs produced by the Turkish defence industry.
