Japan says it spotted a Chinese military drone near the Japanese islands of Okinawa and Miyakojima on New Year's Day. The unmanned reconnaissance aircraft flew from the East China Sea toward the Pacific Ocean before circling back and heading west. The aircraft didn't enter Japanese airspace, according to the statement.
On New Year’s Day, the Japanese Defense Ministry reported seeing a Chinese military drone near the Japanese islands of Okinawa and Miyakojima.
The unmanned surveillance aircraft, described as a WZ-7 drone by the ministry, went from the East China Sea to the Pacific Ocean before turning around and going west, according to a statement issued late Sunday.

According to the statement, the aircraft did not enter Japanese airspace.
On Monday, a local holiday, China’s foreign ministry did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
